Chart licenses, cloud storage, and LTE Narrowband connectivity: that's where the subscription price comes from.
How does it work?
Purchase your subscription in the shop. If you have a Smartboatia ID and your Hub is online, it will be activated on your Hub and in the app within about 5 minutes, so you can get started right away.

Yes, anytime. You keep access through the period you already paid for, and we simply won’t charge you for the next one.
The key differences between the Smartboatia Standard Subscription and the free version:
Enhanced Buddy Functionality: With the Smartboatia Standard Subscription, you can invite up to 25 Boat-Buddies, while the free version is limited to 3. This allows you to invite more friends to follow your boat and sailing adventures.
Nearly Real-Time Data: The Standard Subscription provides nearly real-time data synchronization every 5 seconds. In the free version, the Hub stores your data but only allows you to view it with a 6-hour delay.
Unlimited Cloud Data Storage: With the Standard Subscription, you can store your data in the cloud indefinitely, as long as the subscription is active.
LTE Narrow Band Synchronization: When there is no internet connection, the Standard Subscription allows basic data, such as position and battery voltage, to be sent to your app via LTE Narrow Band. Please note that NB-IoT must be available in the region for this feature to work. For more information, please refer to this link.
GPX Export: The Standard Subscription offers the ability to export your track data, in GPX format for analysis in other applications. This is especially useful for sailing races and reviewing your journeys.

A GPX export allows you to save your sailing data in a standardized format. You can then analyze this data in other applications.
As a GPX file, you can download the following data: GPS coordinates, speed over ground (SOG), course over ground (COG), heading, water temperature, ground wind direction (GWD), ground wind speed (GWS), apparent wind angle (AWA), apparent wind speed (AWS), and speed through water (STW).
Without a subscription, your boat data stays available in the cloud for three months, plenty of time to relive a trip or catch up after a season. With a subscription, your full trip history is kept forever.
The Hub has its own SIM card for maritime use. If your boat sits at the dock without Wi-Fi, it still sends your position and battery voltage to you, over LTE Narrowband, wherever coverage is available. That way you can check in on your boat and catch a dropping battery early, even when you’re not nearby.
