The Ocean Race Europe is a high-level offshore regatta for foiling IMOCA yachts, featuring mixed crews from at least two nations competing across Europe. After its first edition in 2021, the second race is set for 2025 – with the official start in Kiel, Germany.
Under the motto “Connecting Europe – Racing to restore our oceans,” this race merges cutting-edge performance sailing with a mission to protect and understand the oceans.
📍 The route: Starting August 10, 2025, in Kiel (Germany), the race continues to Portsmouth (UK), Porto (Portugal fly-by), Cartagena (Spain), Nice (France), and Genoa (Italy), with the finish in Boka Bay, Montenegro, in mid/late September.
Kiel will host the official race start for the first time – a milestone for the city and a celebration for the maritime community.
From August 6 to 10, 2025, the Ocean Live Park will transform the Kiel promenade into an open, family-friendly festival packed with scientific exhibitions, shows, team meet-and-greets, sailing action, and interactive booths – free and accessible to all.
GEOMAR, a leading oceanographic institute, is heavily involved. Together with Team Malizia and other partners, they will be presenting the intersection between sailing and marine conservation.

With the Smartboatia Hub, we collect GPS, environmental, and sailing log data automatically and in real time – no manual input required.
This data is analyzed and shared with environmental authorities and research partners, such as SOOP and GEOMAR, contributing directly to marine protection and scientific progress.
